Animal Drinking Stations
All about the animal drinking stations that we have installed in the reserve to provide a water source for animals during periods of drought.

Whites Hill reserve consists of mainly dry sclerophyll rainforest and has no permanent water course. The creek has water only during periods of heavy rain and water pools only survive a matter of weeks beyond those periods. During periods of drought or bushfires it can be difficult for animals to find water and so we have installed three animal drinking stations in the reserve. These are all near the dry creek in the northeast (Jones Rd) corner of the reserve as we thought this would be a location animals would be used to finding standing water. We have not had a severe drought since we installed them but they are ready and willing.
The drinking stations are made from everyday plumbing supplies and we were lucky that Bunnings, Mt Gravatt were happy to donate all the materials once they were aware of our plan.
Our Kokoda Kids volunteers assembled and decorated them during their Bushcare volunteer event in January 2024 and we installed the first two at our monthly working bee a couple of weeks later. Our third drinker was installed by our junior Bushcare group in May 2026.
We clean and refill them every month but unfortunately we have not witnessed them being used and lack the funds for some form of camera monitoring (the photo below is not ours BUT feel free to donate) :)
