Whites Hill Environment group

The Whites Hill-Pine Mountain Community Group (WHPMCG) began as Jones Road Bushcare Group in the late 1990s as a response to concerns of local residents about the extent of weed incursion in Whites Hill Reserve. Back then it had seen life as a cattle property, a quarry and a local dump and developments had nibbled away at it's edges with more housing encroaching on the reserve as recently as the 1960's.

Our Bushcare group, supported by the Brisbane City Council (BCC) Habitat Brisbane initiative, concentrated on weed control and planting of native species to protect the vulnerable plants such as the rare Cupaniopsis Shirleyana (Shirley’s tuckeroo). This plant is found in only 4 places in the reserve and nowhere else in Brisbane. The only other site we know of is near Gympie.

Whites Hill and it's various creeks and waterways form part of the Bulimba Creek catchment and we work with the Bulimba Creek catchment coordinating committee (known as B4C to save on ink and time) to protect and restore our precious flora and fauna.

We have regular Bushcare working bees, run fortnightly guided walks plus other flora and fauna awareness activities. We love our local Bushland and all it has to offer. We are lucky to have one of the largest populations of koalas close to the city and we will continue to work to protect it.

We are non-profit and generate all our funds from membership and grants.

Membership of WHPMCG costs the princely sum of $10 a year and helps fund our activities BUT you don't have to be a member to join in any activities such as the Bushwalks and Working Bees
