Thanks to an enthusiastic group of 'Kokoda Kids' we were able to repair a degraded track near the quarry border. They moved and spread almost 30m3 of mulch as well as weeding and constructing a few wildlife drinking stations that we will install on our next working bee.
The ‘kids’ were all participants in the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program which amongst other things involves volunteering in community projects. They offered to help us out and we were more than happy to accept their offer.
It was estimated that the amount of mulch they moved would have taken a mechanical digger about 3 hours. Plus, the area would have been inaccessible to such a machine!
While toiling away they told me about all the amazing experiences they have had over the past 9 months, and this was their last community event before they graduate at the end of January. If you would like to learn more about the program check out this link to the Kokoda Youth Foundation
