Members of the Kokoda Kids Foundation volunteered at the reserve to shift mulch and perform track repair and do some weeding. This is the second time they have helped us out in the reserve.

We were very stoked to welcome back again this year, another group of 'Kokoda Kids' to do some repair work on a damaged area of the reserve.

This energetic bunch are participants on a youth program run by the Kokoda Youth Challenge Program and did an amazing job shifting a huge pile of mulch (20m3) up the tracks with forks and barrows as the area was inaccessible to machinery. It was hard work and extremely humid but they succeeded in moving all the mulch.

It was fascinating to hear about all the amazing experiences they have had during their 9-month program, and this was their last community event before they graduate at the end of January. You could tell they had bonded as a group during their time on the program and after surviving the 96km Kokoda Challenge earlier in the year they reckoned moving the mulch was a piece of cake.

After a well-earned morning tea down by the children’s playground we took them up to the Summit. They weeded Corky passion Vine until around midday and the storm that had been brewing arrived, so we high tailed it down for cover. Not that the rain worried them too much as they took the opportunity to cool down.
