On Sunday 26th October we held the Spring koala count in the reserve. We were joined by Angela from  the Qld Koala Society and John from Koala Rescue Brisbane South see photo above.

This is the third such event we have held and it was great to see so many people come along. We had support from around 60 adults and children including our local member for Griffith, Renee Coffey, who found time to join in the count. Everyone got to see a koala.

Some got to see their first koala in the wild and a few more first timers were the ones who spotted them! The spotters chose from 6 spotting routes all colour coded. Some tracks were more accessible than others so people could choose dependent on their fitness and ability.

Every group spotted koalas and in total, once the numbers were crunched, and the duplicate sightings accounted for, we had spotted a total of 44 koalas. 35 adults and 9 joeys.

After we returned to base we enjoyed a tasty morning tea including Joan's extremely popular koala biscuits! A great result for everyone involved but, most of all, I think everyone enjoyed a fun Sunday morning.

Our thanks to all who participated AND an extra special thanks to Heather, Belinda, Joan, Phyllis and all the other providers of the great biscuits afterwards!!!
