On Sunday 29th March we had the second session of the 2026 Whites Hill Junior Bushcare group. Nine eager participants learned about animal habitats, what birds, animals and plants we could spot nearby and how yummy home baked goodies are 🙂

We began with a Q&A about Australian Wildlife and what things might we find in Whites Hill which was followed by an enlightening game of "Predator v Prey" during which the kids learned being an animal is pretty hard but even harder when humans interfere with your habitat.

After a timely refreshment break to enjoy the homemade goodies, (thanks Phyllis), the children were issued binoculars, a clipboard and a list of birds they might spot nearby.

Armed with our equipment we set off on a short walk to the 'Bloodwood Steps' in search of ‘stuff’!

Along the way we saw lots of different trees (and learned their names), a pair of cute nesting Rainbow Lorikeets, two koalas, two wallabies (spotted by the eagle-eyed kids), plus many other different birds, plants and insects.

On returning to our base at the Rotunda we talked about what we'd seen and how we could record this in our nature journals. Gary gave some examples of the sort of thing you could do with a journal.

The event was polished off with chocolate Bilbies and Easter eggs, what's not to like.
