Planting 350 natives around the new steps

We had 55 volunteers turn up for our planting around the new steps. It was great to have such a large number to help us out, around 40 first timers and good to see lots of younger planters too.

The weather was kind to us, light rain had wetted the ground during the night and had stopped by planting time. Yet more heavier rain came along after we'd finished just to top them off. How cool was that!

Steve Cameron from B4C had pre dug the holes, he brought the plants and oversaw the planting which made for a much easier time for us.

With such a keen bunch of planters all the plants were in the ground within an hour, so while our lovely quality control team checked them over and started watering, the rest of us went to inspect and treat a Fire Ant nest.

The morning ended with a delicious morning tea. Thanks to Heather and Phyliss for producing a veritable feast at short notice as we were surprised by the big turnout.

Everyone involved (young and old) can now watch their plantings progress and take pride in the fact they made a difference.
